Camping at the Thompson River
July 2nd through 4th, 2000

Brandi and Chris enjoy the
cool waters of the Thomson River on our first day out, July 2d

Bethanne and Tom prepare to
capture the moment on a rock below the campsite

The kids and Mariah made good
time on the trail in to the campsite

We were all glad to finally
descend to the bottom of the gorge and find the River. The trail in to camp
was about 1.2 miles long and went downhill all the way.

It wasn’t long until Brandi
and Chris hit the water.

Later we all relaxed around
the campfire and listened to the water as it crashed by just below the campsite.
We saw not another soul all day here in the Nantahala National Forest’s newest
section.

Next day we hiked downriver
to Simon’s Fall. Here Bob shows Brandi “the ropes”

Soon she’s at home in the rushing
water. Cold as ice on this fine July day. The Thompson River used to be called
the Jocassee, named after an Indian Princess.

Bethanne poses for the camera

Brandi throwing rocks to show
us where the snake was

Mariah likes the cool breeze
of the falls

Later in the day Brandi and
Chris hiked with Robin to High Falls

Tired and “woodsy” the night
of July 3d, Tom treats us to a bonfire at camp.

Mariah just enjoys being with
the people !

Next day we break camp and
head back uphill

A tired but happy group arriving
back at the road.
