La Florida |

La Florida is a massive work completed about 1591 authored by Garcilasco de la Vega, also known as "The Inca". The author was the son of a Spanish Conquistador and an Inca Princess, and was born in Peru. The Inca did not accompany De Soto on his expedition. He wrote this work in Spain where he spent his later life. The basis for his writings was an association with a member of the expedition who told him the story many years later, Gonzalo Sylvestre. The Inca also relied on written accounts he had collected by expedition members Alonso de Carmona and Juan Coles. None of the original sources for La Florida have survived. More than an account this was written as a literary work in the tradition of many Medieval Works like Don Quixote, although this would be considered today a historical novel. Because of this La Florida is considered the least accurate of all the accounts. These reproductions are taken from pages
